The 2015 California pear season is less than two months away. Adequate cold hours, good weather during bloom, and a warm Spring with no major weather events should yield an excellent pear crop in terms of total volume and quality. Official industry estimates will be available mid-June.
Harvests in California are early this year, and pears will be no exception. We expect the Sacrmanento “River” district will begin harvest of Bartlett and Red pears in early July. The first shipments will most likely occur sometime the week of July 6th. River Bosc, Mountain Bartletts, and other varietal pears will follow several weeks later. Indications are that pear category movement is strong and we expect good demand for new crop California pears in July. Promotions should be planned from mid July through October.
Scully Packing is excited to announce that effective for the 2015 season, we will be handling the sales for “Blazing Star” label, formerly handled by Adobe Creek Packing of Kelseyville, CA. This move will fill a need for additional Golden Bosc volume, as well as complement our existing Lake County Bartlett and Red pear programs.
We appreciate your support of Scully Packing Company and look forward to another great California Pear season. In the meantime, please contact Kyle or Phil in the Finley Sales office at (707) 263-8500 or Stella Giese in Exeter at (559) 594-4626 for further information.
